  2. A Azman Says:

    Dear Elizabeth

I am a resident at Mutiara Damansara, part of your constituent. There is a basic infrastructure issue at the first junction leading to Mutiara Damansara commercial area (named junction no. 1)along Persiaran Surian. All these years there was no proper bus stop at the said junction. Especially, when it rains, I could see commuters running towards shaded area under some trees and it can be fatal if lightning struck. I sincerely view this is a basic infrastructure issue, even to some third world countries.

Thank you have a good day.

Hot issue for Putra Heights folks
    By LIM CHIA YING

FOR the past six years, residents of Bukit Lanchong, a neighbourhood at Putra Heights, have had to put up with foul smelling smoke from illegal open burning.

Many have got so used to the whiff that they brush it off as nothing, or just simply think that it is peat haze blowing in from neighbouring Indonesia.

Putra Heights resident Ericson Fernandez did not know how serious the open burning was until he noticed his two-year-old daughter coughing continuously and she has since been put on an inhaler.

Stinking problem: The illegal dumpsite at Bukit Lanchong.

Curious about where the smell came from, Ericson stumbled across an illegal dump site that he claimed has become a site for burning manufacturing and industrial waste.

“There was a bad stench coming from the ground. Every week there would be at least three periods of open burning, but it had slowed down in the past three weeks after it generated some interest with the authorities,” he said.

“The burning hours have also changed. It usually starts at around 11pm until about 2am to 3am, at a time when people are already sleeping so they would not notice anything.

“When morning arrives, our houses will be enveloped by a thick layer of man-made fog,” Ericson explained.

Another resident Teh Yee Wen has been following the case since moving to Putra Heights about two years ago.

“My nose is sensitive. I would bleed when the smoke gets overwhelming and it can even cause grogginess,” said Tee, who also had signatures from over hundred of residents protesting the open burning.

Other than Bukit Lanchong, another site previously threatened by similar open burning was Kampung Johan Setia along the Kesas Highway.

Smoked out: Plumes of smoke rising through the early morning air at Bukit Lanchong.

Chui Wing Hoe from Bandar Puteri Klang said the smoke could even be smelt from as far as his house when the burning takes place.

“Depending on the wind direction, the smoke can come up to our place and also Kota Kemuning and USJ. Although there is few cases of open burning now, there is still no permanent solution.

“We don’t know when it will come back,” Chui said.

While Bukit Lanchong reeks with the burning stench from an illegal dumpsite, it has been confirmed that the burning sites at Kampung Johan Setia were farmand that had been abandoned by the landowners and taken over by illegal immigrants.

Ericson wants to know why air pollutant index (API) readings are only conducted in the mornings and evenings when the real burning happens at night.

“Right now, I don’t think I’ll ever put this issue to rest as no long-term solution has been worked out. I’ve been exchanging numerous emails with our Kota Raja MP Dr Siti Mariah Mahmud who has been empathetic and even brought up the matter in Parliament,” Ericson said.

Dr Siti Mariah said the Department of Environment (DoE), the Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ), and the Petaling District Land Office were aware of the issue.

Not a nice sight: The red glow of the fire can be seen lighting up the night sky in the area.

“I’m not sure at what stage it is at now as I’ve not met up with the DoE on this. However, I understand that these culprits dig very big holes in the ground to do the burning inside, after which the holes are quickly covered up.

“The DoE will have to catch these culprits red-handed,” she said.

Dr Siti Mariah also said the authorities were left with one alternative to solve the problem at Kampung Johan Setia, which was to issue summonses to the landowners who didn’t take care of their land.

“However, the problem now lies in identifying the landowners, which can be difficult as there are no marking on the borders of the land.”

She said while the onus is on the Land Office, any action would have to be coordinated at the state level which falls under the portfolio of State Environmental Committee chairman Elizabeth Wong.

“One department cannot ask another to do something without an order from the state. We need a coordination,” she said.

Selangor DoE director Che Asmah Ibrahim said landowners had been identified for some of the illegal burning sites at Bukit Lanchong and two court cases are being prepared.

She claimed that there was no more open burning at Kampung Johan Setia except when there is a dry spell.

“However, we are continuing to monitor it. Several steps have been taken so far, like getting the Drainage and Irrigation Department (DID) to deepen a drain to contain water to put out fires as a temporary measure.

“Water sources were not easily available previously, making it difficult for firemen to battle the blazes,” Che Asmah said.

She added that the state government had commissioned a study on the appropriate land use for the area.

“We have a list of over 1,500 owners but no markings have been made to show which plot of land is whose. Illegal immigrants have also taken over the abandoned land and they can only be caught while in action of lighting a fire.

“We have engaged the Global Environmental Centre (GEC) to carry out a study on suitability of soil use, which should be ready by mid-July. The GEC has been involved in a lot of big study cases in many areas in this region including Indonesia,” she said.

Wong, who admitted she has yet to visit Bukit Lanchong, confirmed that the DoE has indeed filed two investigation cases on two landowners for allowing open burning.

“Since it’s private land, there’s no way for us to cordon it off. The place is quite big, but only two lots are used for the open burning.

“Ideally, the landowners should be more responsible. However, we have a lot of witnesses so we trust the owners will appear in court,” Wong said.

She said the two lots could be confiscated as a last resort.

MPSJ president Datuk Adnan Md Ikhsan claimed he was not aware of the matter, but urged the public to give him information on the site and he would then take immediate action.

“If it’s an illegal dumping site, then we will have to take action and issue compounds. If it happens to be one of our contractors, we will terminate the contract immediately.

“This is an issue I will not tolerate and will not hesitate to go all out to nab the culprits,” he said.

I am a resident of BU 12. Noticed car are speeding along Lebuh Bandar Utama leading to Kampung Chempaka. Junction near exit from BU 12/7 is very dangerous. I had made a phone complaint and will take some photo and send in soon. There was also a motorcyclist run down by a car on Sunday 15th June PM if not mistaken (saw that with my own eyes).

    To whom it may concern,

I’m quite disappointed with the COB department from MBPJ.

Currently,i’m facing the vice president of our JMB misuse of power and our JMB is left only 4 members as others are resigned and inactively at all. Refer to the ACT 663, the JMB should announce an EGM to select more member which is elected by residents to join.Unfortunately, 3 out of the 4 members don’t want to do it cos there will be RM387K sinking fund going to transfer to JMB.

In the initial, the lady in the COB department advise me to collect signature from 1/4 purchasers to form EGM. When i collect most of the purchaser’s signature then she told me i can’t simply asking for EGM with the collected signature. It is really confuse me.

But according to ACT 663 10(2), as long as 1/4 purchasers write in to request , JMB shall form EGM. But now COB in MBPJ say EGM is not simply requested and it has to decided by JMB.

Anyway, i wish i can know where can i get an accurate answer. I don’t wish due to the other member has met COB and COB just sided on one side and confusing me the only people in the JMB who wish to have more residents join in JMB to overlook the fund.

Shall you have any answer, kindly email me.

    Thank you

By way of introduction, I am an Associate Professor at NUS Law School. I am planning to convene a public forum at NUS Law School on October 10 or October 17 this year on the recent Malaysian election and I would like to invite Ms. Elizabeth Wong to be a member of our distinguished panel of speakers. I would be extremely grateful if someone could email me Ms. Wong’s contact email so that I can provide her with the details for her kind consideration.

  11. Vincent Says:

    Dear YB,

I believe if anyone could answer the prayers of us folks living in West Selangor, you could be that person.

My problem started when I moved to Bandar Botanic in Klang about a year ago. Apart from the infrastructure, landscaping, etc the place looked good. However as I came to discover, there was a constant problem which was open burning. In the past, many who lived in PJ/KL have often thought that the smog or haze that occasionally shrouds the city was caused by our Indonesian neighbour. How naive and wrong was I?

Today I know for a fact how selfish and ignorant some farmers, villagers, and politicians can be. In the previous years before GE12, lies and lies were told about the haze. And to think that the previous MB had the audacity to call Selangor a developed state is beyond belief. And open burning was only one of the rampant rape to this beautiful land that was taking place. What about illegal dumping, polluting of rivers, illegal mining and dredging, illegal logging, and so on? What has been done to curb these crimes to the environment? I am shocked at what I have come to know off in the last one year. But more than shock is the feeling of being so disgusted with how the powers that be have forced us, the citizens to swallow the lies and living conditions that we have to put up with.

I am sorry if this email comment may be tinge with anger, for I cannot hide the fact that so many are suffering from breathing difficulties because of some corporation or someone’s selfish deeds. I urge you (through the state machinery) to take the irresponsible few to court and slap them with a fine that they deserve. Teach them a lesson that others will not dare to follow. Please put an end to this rampant abuse.

Thank you and may God give you the courage to do what is right.

PS – thank you for even highlighting and investigating this problem. I am sure that the rakyat had made the right choice in voting for change.

    Yours sincerely,
    Vincent

  13. Choong Foong Heng Says:

    Hi Elizabeth,

I am a resident of Bandar Sri Damansara and have been staying here since 10 years ago. Like many other residents here, I enjoy the quiet and nice residential environment within Sri Damansara.

However, I understand TA is planning to build a huge Shopping and Commercial area in Bandar Sri Damansara. I believe this will significantly affect the traffic condition here.

I have attended PKR’s Ceramah before and agree with the statement given in the Ceramah ( may not be you) that we don’t need development in this area and we in fact we should avoid over development.

I hope you could give a due consideration in this matter and bring this up in MPPJ.

I am a strong supporter of PK and I believe you guy can do better than the previous state government.

Look forward to your positive response and wish PK to succeed on Sep 16.

    Best reagrds,

    Choong Foong Heng

  14. Ben Says:

Why is the response from the http://www.bukitlanjan.com so slow?
My complains to e-aduan at MBPJ is as bad. Some of the problem reported as back as July08 have yet to have any response, let alone acknowledgement of action will be taken. Thank you.

  15. Sharon Tan Says:

    Dear Ms. Wong,

I am one of the residents of Puncak Damansara in Kampung Kayu Ara. My condominium block faces the river. The continuous rain everyday really worries my family and I and we are unable to sleep soundly as the errossion has caused even part of the car park of my condo to sink! The officers only came here once. After that it is long forgotten…..(as usual)…How much more damage does the MPBJ need before they can do something? In Malaysia, everything is on an ad hoc basis. The government will only form an ad hoc committee to monitor things only if there are people dead. Hence, I would strongly hope that you live up to your campaign slogan to help improve our situation before somebody dies.

    Thank you.

Living around Bandar Sri Damansara is ok
but lately there have been break-in, robbery and also burglary in the Afternoon and so far there are 6 houses around Jalan SAGA SD 8 been broken into and have been a cause of concern.

Please help us by allocating funds to put survelliance camera around this area. And also beef up the police patrol maybe also build a police hq around this area to handle the growing crime rate.

  18. Sharon Tan Says:

    Hi,
I’ve written to you before but there was no reply. Kindly look into the problem of soil erosion behind the Puncak Damansara Condominium as lives are at stake. The area had a recent landslide at the river bank next to our bloack of condominium! MPBJ has yet to build and embankment to curb the soil erosion. Furthermore, there is a river running along this area. I am asking you again as our elected voice to do something about this. We do not want the terrible tragedy at Bkt Antrabangsa to ever occur. Resolve this problem before it is too late.

    Sharon Tan

  19. Connie Ng Says:

The hawker centre near my office at Mutiara Damansara in the vicinity of the surau and police station has been opened for one week now. Only some 5 of the stalls of the total (15 to 18) are operating.
During lunchtime today there is defintiely not enough patrons to sustain the business.
1)The road level to the stalls is about one metre high. The developer or MPPJ should quickly built some 3 steps to make the stalls more accessible.
    2) There is no public transport into this area. Please arrange the MPPJ feeder bus to take the workers at Tesco, Ikano, Courts, The Curve,Cineleisure to this area daily between 12noon to 2.30pm to attend their Friday prayers, and patronize the small business people trying to make a living operating a food stall.
    3) Perhaps you should also operate a service centre there during the lunch time to make PKR presence. Dont see you around after March 08.

    Screw those buggers.

  27. Lim Jo Vi Says:

    Elizabeth

You have done nothing wrong, don’t resign, Pakatan needs ADUN like you, you are our heroin, no matter what, we are with you.

We wish you the very best, we value your contribution so far.

  28. Cheong Bak Cheng Says:

Please do not resign. We need you.

  29. Steven Koay Says:

    Dear YB Elizabeth,

This is Steven, a member of AMK from S.Petani. I feel sympathy to what had happened to you !

I would like to express my objection to your offer to resign as Selangor Exco and Adun for Bukit Lanjan.

Would anyone tell me, what have you done ? Have you committed a crime ? against the law ? Why must you resign ?

I would like to ask any Malaysian, do they ever naked at home ? Frankly, everyone did ! Especially those who stay alone. To those who are not staying alone, i’m sure they did naked during shower or making love with their love ones.

You are the victim of the incident ! You were photographed when you were asleep. it just like you were photographed when you were taking bath, or when you were changing your cloth. Is changing cloth or taking bath is an offence ? If it is, everyone in the world has committed a crime now.

Besides, what’s wrong with the Umno leaders ? Expecially ex-MB of Selangor, Khir Toyo and Melaka KM, Ali Rustam. You 2 have been many years as the leaders of states and Umno, but how come your judgement is so ‘low-class’ ? You urged Eli to stay down due to moral scandal, if it is you 2 haveto stay down too as you did naked at home too ! Hey please do not politicalize the incident as it has been manupulated due to political reason of BN.

If Eli circulate her nude photo to public or been naked in the public, she has committed to crime. Now the person who suppose to be punished is the person who snapped her nude photo without her permission and circulated it to the public not Elizabeth !

Dear Elizabeth, you are innocent ! Please do not crouch to the conspiracy of BN ! If you resign, they are glad as they have achieved your objective. Please do not surrender to BN.

We, the member of PKR nationwide will always support and stand firm behind you in facing this incident 1

Besides, I would like to urge the leadesr of PKR especially central leadership to support our YB Elizabeth and pursuade her not to quit.

As reported by Merdeka Review, the force of calling her to quit is actually PKR party leaders after last night’s meeting. As we know this is the conspiracy of BN, it has nothing to do with Eli’s moral. Therefore I would call for all PKR party leaders to stand behind of Elizabeth and support her to continue her responsibility to serve the people !

Dear PKR Leaders, it is time for your to show your support to someone with had sacrificed a lot for the party and the people of Malaysia !

  30. Simon M Says:

I respect your many views on human rights and your sincere intentions for justice. I am sorry about what has happened to you. I am very upset and I share grief.

Elly, you have not done anything wrong. You must not give in to such uncultured acts. You must stand by yourself.

I am very far away from Malaysia. I wish I could talk to you but I am sure you have many steady, close ones providing you support.

Be patient! As Lao Tzu said, “Are you patient enough until the water becomes still and the mud settles down.” The strongest wind will slow down. You have done no wrong.

You are free to communicate with me. My prayers are with you.
