Dear

BUKIT LANJAN: LEADING THE CHANGE Dinner

Greetings!

On March 8, 2008, the people of Selangor made history and voted for change. The result is a new Pakatan Rakyat state government led by YAB Tan Sri Dato’ Abdul Khalid Ibrahim, a people-centric government which prioritises on good governance and public accountability.

Here in Bukit Lanjan, my team and I have worked to resolve issues faced by residents, from Kampung Sg Kayu Ara to Desa Jaya. As an Executive Councilor of the state, I have been given an opportunity to use my passion for protecting the environment, an area that has long been neglected in the heavily industrialised state of Selangor.

I am proud of all the work we have done so far, especially the recovery of forest and mangrove reserves, including one near Bukit Lanjan in Kota Damansara, the protection of river reserves, rivers and biodiversity in the state is enhanced. We are also in the midst of putting together a Selangor Environmental Policy to turn our state into a green, sustainable place to live and to work. And everyday, we continue to resolve cases of open burning, industrial pollution and illegal effluent discharge

I have also pursued other issues that are important to the state and its people, such as the tabling of the formation of the state assembly committee – SELCAT, and the Contempt of House Enactment 2008. My team and I are working towards introducing a Freedom of Information Enactment, amendments to the Forestry Act, as well as ensuring the welfare of the most marginalized community in Selangor – the Orang Asli community, is not neglected. I am also tasked to look into other law reform matters in the state, including that of measures to enhance and improve the Federalist system in Malaysia, which will benefit all in Selangor.

But change has not come easy. We have all seen how the status quo had no qualms about employing any means necessary to stifle people’s aspiration for change. Yet, I am confident that if we continue the hard work and perseverance, we will get through these difficult times. Soon, we will see a stronger Selangor and Malaysia, more united, inclusive, plural and progressive.

Being home to a well-educated more progressive and urbane population, I’m sure the people of Bukit Lanjan understand what is really at stake. My team and I need all the help and support we can get to continue our struggle to reform Selangor and the nation at large, be it financial, human resources or even moral support.

In the past year and a half, I have been fortunate enough to meet and work with many of you. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank you for all the cooperation and support you have offered my team and I, especially through the challenging times.

As such, we plan to hold a BUKIT LANJAN: LEADING THE CHANGE Dinner on 21 November 2009 (Saturday) at Dewan MBPJ, Bandar Utama 3, Jalan BU 3/1 , 47800, Petaling Jaya, Selangor. We sincerely appreciate and call on all associates, individuals and friends for your generous support.

This dinner is not only a celebration, but a reminder that more work lies ahead for all of us  – whether as a ‘Wakil Rakyat’ or fellow citizens. It marks another step in the struggle to give the people of Selangor a voice in government, in order to remove the grip of corruption, mismanagement and racial politics.

Whatever contributions you can offer towards making this dinner a success will be greatly appreciated. All remaining proceeds will be remitted to the Bukit Lanjan Service Centre (BLSC) to help us serve the community better and our account books will be open for public scrutiny.

Thank you and our best wishes to all.

Sincerely yours,

Elizabeth Wong

  4. Mar CM Says:

    Hi,
It is good to hold this type of gathering. But it seems to me the target is not grassroot people since it is divided into platinium/gold. Do learn the lesson try to avoid this type of classification since the fall of previous administrative was mainly due to they are not getting closer to rakyat !
